The short version
- We collect only what we need to run GistWise: your account, the topics you choose, and how you use the app.
- We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
- Payments are handled by Apple or Google. We never see your card number.

- You can see, download or delete your data at any time, including deleting your account inside the app.
This Privacy Policy explains how [GistWise, Inc.] ("GistWise," "we," "us") collects, uses and shares information when you use the GistWise mobile apps, the website at gistwise.ai, and related services (together, the "Services").
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information: your name and email address, or a private relay email if you use Sign in with Apple, and your sign-in method.
- Your preferences: the 3 to 5 topics you choose, notification settings, playback speed and similar settings.
- Messages and reports: what you send us when you contact support or report an issue with a Gist.
Information collected automatically
- Learning activity: Gists you play, finish, skip, save or download; listening progress; quiz answers; streaks.
- Device and app information: device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone and an app-generated identifier.
- Diagnostics: crash reports and performance data that help us fix bugs.
- Website: standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages visited). We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website: pages viewed, links clicked, the device and browser, and approximate location (city or country, not your exact location). Google Analytics sets analytics cookies, except for visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, where it runs without them. Our website does not use advertising cookies, and we do not use website data for advertising. You can block Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Information from partners
- Apple and Google: when you subscribe, the App Store or Google Play tells us whether your subscription is active, which plan you have and when it renews. We do not receive your payment card details.
- Sign-in providers: if you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic profile information you allow them to share.
2. How we use information
- Provide the Services, including your daily feed, Gist of the Day, downloads, streaks and learning paths.
- Personalize recommendations based on your chosen topics and listening activity.
- Manage subscriptions and free trials and confirm what features you can access.
- Send service messages and, if you allow them, reminder notifications. You can turn notifications off at any time.
- Keep the Services safe, prevent fraud and abuse, and fix problems.
- Understand how the app is used so we can improve it, using aggregated or de-identified data where possible.
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers who process data for us under contracts that limit their use of it, including cloud hosting and databases (for example Supabase and Microsoft Azure), subscription management, product analytics, crash reporting and email delivery.
- Apple and Google, to process purchases and subscriptions under their own privacy policies.
- Legal reasons: if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, GistWise or others.
- Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
- With your consent, for any other purpose you agree to.

4. How long we keep information
We keep your account information and learning activity while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep it longer for legal, tax, security or dispute reasons. Backups are overwritten on a regular schedule. Diagnostic and log data is usually kept for no more than 90 days.
5. Your choices and rights
- Access and download: request a copy of your personal information.
- Correct: update your profile and topics in the app, or ask us to fix inaccurate data.
- Delete: delete your account in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete account, or without the app as described on Delete your account. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google; cancel that in your store settings.
- Notifications: turn push notifications off in the app or your device settings.
- Analytics: turn off product analytics in the app under Profile → Settings → Share usage analytics.
US state privacy rights
Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with privacy laws), you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete and port your personal information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information or targeted advertising. We do not sell or share personal information in those ways. We honor Global Privacy Control signals on our website. We will not discriminate against you for using your rights.
To make a request, email privacy@gistwise.ai from the email address on your account. We may need to verify your identity. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision.
6. Security
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls and least-privilege permissions for our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
7. Children
GistWise is intended for people aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it. Users between 13 and the age of majority where they live should use GistWise with a parent's or guardian's permission.
8. International users
GistWise is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed in the United States. If you use the Services from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
